The Parish Council has launched a crowdfunding project on Spacehive to raise the money for a mobile speed indicator device (SID). Spacehive is the crowdfunding platform that West Sussex County Council ask projects to use to apply for grants from their Community Initiative Fund.

We have set a fundraising target of £4k which will cover the cost of the mobile device, a data collection device, brackets for attaching it to posts at 4 locations i.e. Staplefield, Ansty, Brook Street and Rocky Lane and all the fees associated with Spacehive.  The mobile device will be moved between the four locations which will help keep the message fresh.  The SID will display the speed of the oncoming vehicle.  If the funding exceeds £4k then we might be able to upgrade the device to one which also includes a smiley/frowning face or other message.

The Parish Council has made an initial donation of £500 and it is hoped that WSCC will make a donation from their Community Initiative Fund.  We won’t know how much this is until the middle of March.  We have until the end of March to reach the funding target of £4k.  If the target is not reached then none of the pledges will be collected and the WSCC donation will disappear.

Pledges can be made by resident groups or individuals can make personal donations if they wish.

Once the device has been purchased we will be looking for a volunteer in each location who would be willing to put the device up, take it down and retrieve the batteries for recharging.
